Today I’ve seen one of the most beautiful, positive and heart-melting videos ever, and decided to analyse it as a media object and as an amazing alternative to ice cream.
For those who don’t really know me, I may seem a bit shy, freaky-strange sometimes, extremely happy most of the times without a reason, and yes I am all that, even more, but what people don’t know about me, is that I absolutely love sincere smiles more than chocolate [and I DO love chocolate] !
This short film, created by the writer, director and composer, Kurt Kuenne has played at 34 film festivals worldwide and won 17 awards.
Directed by Kurt Kuenne / USA / 2007
After seeing the video, millions of things went through my mind, from ladybugs flying on a summer day, lovers holding hands under the night sky, seashells being taken away by clear waves, TO the fear we endure everyday, the fear of not being good enough, the need of someone telling us we can overcome any obstacle, that we are beautiful just the way we are.
The video, a ‘ fable about the magic of free parking’, focused on the huge meaning simple words can have. It shows us that through words we can either make a person feel extraordinary, or ruin its day, even life. Words have the power to destroy, and in the same time, to create amazing things, and this is the perfect example. The fact that the video black and white, intensifies the emotions, ‘daring’ people to concentrate on the meaning of the words, not on the images, as we all must do in real life, focus on the inside.
Going more into the real meaning of this masterpiece, we realise that not only the parking tickets are validated, but also people. The main actor gives out along with free parking, free compliments, making each and every person he encounters, smile, and feel amazing. In the end, he receives the same treatment as he gave the ones around him, feeling extraordinary and happy.
Remember, you do good things, and good things will happen:)
